Intrigued to find which World Cup teams are fans’ favourites to take the title, Ticketgum.com conducted a sentiment analysis on over one million tweets over the past month (7th November – 6th December) to uncover the most loved teams and players ahead of the quarter-finals.

Crowned Twitter’s most loved team, England have the most passionate fans earning the team an online support score of 7.43/10. Having the highest number of positive tweets at 66,983, fans are hopeful ahead of their clash against France this Saturday (10/12).
Following closely behind in second is five-time World Cup holders, Brazil, earning an impressive online support score of 7/10. Knocking South Korea out of the tournament with a dazzling 4 – 1 win, Brazil have been showered with love on Twitter achieving 77.91% of positive tweets.
Argentina comes in third with its huge fanbase contributing to a whopping 44,668 positive tweets, gaining the team an online support score of 6.86/10.
The reigning champions, France, claim fourth place racking up an online support score of 5.57/10. 39,163 supportive tweets were shared by Les Blues fans, which is around 9,000 more than Portugal in fifth place.

Rounding off the top five most loved players is Neymar, achieving an overall score of 8.91/10. Pipping Ronaldo by a mere 0.18, Argentina’s megastar Messi (25,225 positive tweets) beats the Portuguese captain in online fan support, bagging around 1,000 more positive tweets than Ronaldo (8.60/10) in eighth place.
