The world has a new weapon against Covid-19: PHYS, technology certified

PHYS is a Portuguese technology certified in Spain, for the inactivation in garments and objects of SARS-CoV-2, by a laboratory internationally recognized for its work in emerging diseases. The Spanish researcher José Juan Badiola, known for his work in bovine spongiform encephalopathies (commonly known as mad cow disease) was responsible for scientific investigations. This work was only possible through the Spanish multinational HMY Yudigar, and MTEX NS partner, that managed to get this research possible.

Sharing world geography and a demanding pandemic situation, these two Iberian countries (Portugal and Spain) have joined forces and knowledge to fight the Covid-19 scourge, for better global health and economic future.

The Portuguese company MTEX NS was traditionally known for its work as industrial textile printer developer. However, due to the pandemic context, MTEX NS developed a new business line – Cleancare. PHYS is newborn technology, part of this new business segment.

Although the excellent news about the official SARS-CoV-2 certification results, the Portuguese company felt the need to go further and learn more about its creation.

Following this pathway, last Friday, 29th January, MTEX NS, together with two Portuguese partner entities – CITEVE (Portuguese Technological Institute which provides technical support in textile & clothing business), and Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Portuguese Catholic University) presented the PHYS project consortium.

CITEVE will evaluate whether the PHYS process affects fabrics and under what conditions, in the next few months. Simultaneously, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa will appraise PHYS’ effectiveness related to a list of more common organisms, already identified as harmful to public health, namely multi-resistant hospital bacteria.

The result of these new investigations will hopefully allow understanding an even more significant range of applications, as to the impact of this technology use on different materials (fabrics, plastics, and metals).

MTEX NS CEO Elói Ferreira, CITEVE CEO Braz Costa and remotely the researcher Paula Teixeira, representing the Universidade Católica Portuguesa made this official and online presentation. This ceremony had also counted remotely with the Spanish researcher José Juan Badiola and the Vila Nova de Famalicão mayor, Paulo Cunha, who refers the relevance of the knowledge exchange between business corporations, the academic world, and specialized entities with known merit and public utility.

PHYS project is a multidimensional work and investigation aim to benefit the worldwide community with the antivirus, batteries and fungi tool that was born recently and can already make all the difference.
