Before the nights get shorter and colder, you should enjoy the weather once again. So, let's go outside! Here are our best tips for outdoor activities in Berlin.

Please show responsibility, wear your masks and follow the hygiene rules of the organizers. Don’t be shy, but show your love for Berlin with d i s t a n c e – in support of everyones safety.

Tip 1: Cycling tours through Berlin

Getting back on your bike in late summer and exploring the city and surrounding area is definitely one of the top outdoor activities in Berlin! In Berlin there are varied or romantic routes, along the Panke, the Tegeler See, through the Grunewald forest or the zoo and of course along the former Berlin Wall. Or you can start a discovery tour on the traces of Berlin’s industrial culture, visiting backyard sites and former factory buildings.

Tip 2: Relaxing during a walk in th park

Berlin has so many beautiful parks to offer that it is difficult to choose the best one. The Britzer Garten, currently featuring a colourful dahlia show, is definitely one of the highlights! On 100 hectares you can stroll through the lake district, theme gardens such as the famous rose garden or the witch garden, through playgrounds and to the open-air laboratory, which has a permanent exhibition on flora and fauna. Of course the world-famous Tiergarten – the green lung in the middle of the city – is always worth a visit.

Tip 3: On the water

Why not spend a day on the water? Even in late summer this is still possible. Most boat and canoe rentals are still open. Put on something warm and there should be no reason not to discover Berlin’s beautiful lakes, rivers and canals. The best thing to do before you go on such a tour is to ask the respective boat rental company or supplier.

Tip 4: Hiking in and around Berlin

Hiking in the big city might sound like a crazy plan at first, but this year you’ve seen that Berlin has some beautiful corners that are well worth exploring! For example, take a walk along the Wuhletal hiking trail, which winds its way south from Eichepark at Ahrensfelde S-Bahn station with the valley of the Wuhle River to Köpenick S-Bahn station. Besides the species-rich, idyllic river valley, you will encounter numerous parks and meadows along the way. The route also runs along the IGA grounds, which invite you to take a short detour with a cable car ride.

Tip 5: Excursions to Brandenburg

Why not take a trip to neighbouring Brandenburg? In the Spreewald biosphere reserve, about an hour south of Berlin, you can enjoy the landscape on a boat trip along dreamy thatched cottages. Rheinsberg Castle in north-west Brandenburg is also worth a visit. The rococo castle is located directly on the Grienericksee lake.

Tip 6: Skating on the Tempelhofer Feld

Put your boards under your arm and off to the Tempelhof field! Skating is definitely one of the top outdoor activities in Berlin! On the former runways the skaters glide along until well into autumn. On the halfpipes of the Tempelhof field you can prove your skills and get tips from the other skaters.
Tip: If you want to get off to a good start before the winter break, you can train at „Berlintrainiertdraussen” (Berlin trains outdoors). The training is suitable for every fitness level and is offered every 2nd Saturday until the end of October. All you need to bring along is a mat and something to drink.

Tip 7: Discovery tours through the city

During a walk through the city you can always discover something new. The government district and the banks of the Spree also attract inline skaters and joggers, in Dahlem you can walk along green paths and from Tempelhof you can cycle or hike along the Teltow Canal to Steglitz.

A trip to the Bavarian Quarter is also historically interesting. Numerous commemorative plaques await you, which remind you of the gradual discrimination and disenfranchisement of Berlin’s Jews. Incidentally, Albert Einstein also lived here in Haberlandstraße between 1917 and 1932. There is a project website about the new Einstein-Stela with quotations and a lot more information about the famous physicist.

Tip 8: Climbing on the high ropes course

If you love to exercise and balance high up in the air, you shouldn’t miss a visit to a high ropes course! The gardens are open until mid October. Secured with a harness, you will find your way over narrow beams or rope bridges, past exciting obstacles.

In Berlin there are several high ropes courses to choose from: These include the centrally located MountMitte park near Chausseestraße and the Jungfernheide forest high ropes course, which is set in the countryside. The BergWerk indoor park in Hellersdorf is open all year round. The best thing to do before your visit is to ask the provider for more information.

Tip 9: Outing with your dog

A trip to Grunewald is particularly suitable for dog lovers. The sandy shore of Grunewaldsee (Lake Grunewald) is a popular meeting place: here your four-legged friends can really let off steam and take their first refreshing bath of the year. By the way, the pretty Jagdschloss Grunewald (Grunewald hunting lodge) is located very close by. You can find more great destinations for outings with your dog here:

Tip 10: Kite flying on the Teufelsberg

The Drachenberg next to the former spy station Teufelsberg is a place that is simply ideal for kite flying. Although the journey and ascent to the top of the hill is a little difficult, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. The whole of Berlin is at your feet, and there is always a good breeze blowing on the 99 metres of the artificially raised hill. Ideal conditions for kite professionals and amateurs to spend a wonderful day
