Sustainable Hotels for a Vacation with your Dog

More and more hotels are adapting to this. Small gestures such as welcome treats for the furry friends or the provision of blankets and bowls show that dogs are also welcome and not just an „appendage” of the guest.

Hotel Okelmann’s in Lower Saxony, Germany: Yoga and Country Air

The fields and forests surrounding the family-run Hotel Okelmann’s in Warpe are perfect for long dog walks. But the hotel itself also offers all the amenities for two- and four-legged guests. There is a large garden for playing and relaxing, a welcome treat, as well as blankets and bowls. Yoga teacher Maren also offers yoga or singing bowl sound therapy with dogs. The four-legged friend is not actively involved but can relax with you! Café Heimatliebe also has a lovingly furnished concept store. All dog products, from treats to accessories, have, of course, been tested and approved by the dogs of the Okelmann sisters.

Vacation in Switzerland with your Dog – Hotel Bella Vista

The team of the Hotel Bella Vista Zermatt is always happy to welcome dogs. The small, family-run hotel is just a few minutes walk from the center of the car-free village. Hiking trails up into the Swiss Alps start in the immediate vicinity. A cozy bed and food bowls are available for your four-legged friend in your room.

5 Stars for two- and four-legged Guests at the Hotel Klosterbräu

The Hotel Klosterbräu in Seefeld, Austria, is now run by the seventh generation of the Seyrling family. Dogs have always been part of the family, so it is hardly surprising that they are also very welcome at the family-friendly wellness hotel. A small goodie awaits all four-legged guests in their basket on arrival, and dog bowls are provided for the duration of their stay. Behind the hotel, there is an extensive park covering 150,000 m2 where dogs can run around off-leash. They are also allowed in the hotel garden around the outdoor pool and on the sunbathing lawn – but on a lead. A special offer: you can book a delicious premium menu for your four-legged friend.

Green City trip with Dog at Hotel Luise

Hotel Luise awaits its two- and four-legged guests in Erlangen, Bavaria’s smallest big city. Although the hotel is located in the heart of the city, there are several green spaces all around. The reception team always has suitable tips for longer tours. Popular excursion destinations include the Bad Windsheim open-air museum and the Hundshaupten Wildlife Park. In summer, the numerous dog beaches in the region are very popular. Coco-Mat dog beds are available for your pet during your stay, and there is also a small bag of treats for your walk.

Hiking vacation in the mountains with your dog at the HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio Allgäu

The HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio is located in one of the smallest villages in Germany at an altitude of over 1,000 meters. It is the perfect starting point for a hiking vacation with your animal friend. Numerous hiking trails start directly behind the hotel. The HUBERTUS dog guide, which you will find in your room on arrival, will tell you the best tours. In addition to a dog bed and bowls, a dog bathrobe and a dog drinking bottle for the hikes are also available. There is even a dog shower to rinse off the dirt after your tours.

Dogs are not allowed in the wellness area, the restaurants, or the sun terrace. Instead, you can make yourself comfortable in the large lobby with the “Tee Stube” (for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and “Traubel’s garden”.

Three tips for hotel vacations for two- and four-legged friends

You can (and should!) prepare and plan a few things ahead, so that you and your dog enjoy a relaxing vacation. Of course, this includes packing everything important for your furry friend. But the following points will also help you start your holidays stress-free.

  1. Clarify as much as possible beforehand
Call the hotel or send an email and ask what is provided and what you should look out for when you are traveling with a dog. That way, you know what to expect, and the hotel team will be prepared as well.
  2. Release some energy before checking in!
Plan a walk or a play session after your arrival and before check-in. This will allow your dog to let off some energy after the journey and get to know the new surroundings. Then a stress-free check-in is no problem.
  3. Practicing being alone at home
Your dog will probably have to stay in the room alone from time to time. Be it when a spa treatment is due or when your four-legged friend is not allowed in the hotel’s restaurant. Practice leaving your dog alone at home (even in unfamiliar surroundings) so that you save both of you a lot of stress.
