Another good reason to come at the Clos Lucé
THE FAMOUS UNFINISHED SAINT JEROME – An exceptional loan from the Vatican Museums From 10th of June to 20th of September 2022
This exhibition comes three years after the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death at Le Clos Lucé. All of Leonardo’s paintings have a psychological dimension and allow him to give free rein to his desire to paint „the movements of the soul”. But none is as powerful as this Saint Jerome. Moreover, it is one of the few works by Leonardo whose authenticity has never been disputed.
This painting, which oscillates between drawing and painting, raises many questions as to why it was never finished, its dating, who commissioned it, and its provenance. According to some specialists, Leonardo never stopped coming back to it and became attached to it. The painting accompanied him throughout his life.
LEONARDO DA VINCI PARK – An open-air Museum
The 17 a.c park, crossed by the Amasse, a tributary of the Loire, is one of the charms of a visit to the Château du Clos Lucé. During a shady walk, to the sound of chirping birds or the cry of a peacock, it invites you to discover some 20 giant models of Leonardo da Vinci’s inventions and 40 translucent canvases, 2 metres high, representing his major paintings and drawings. Visitors discover Leonardo as an engineer, mathematician, architect, painter and anatomist. Children love to ride the wooden tank, turn the flying propeller or the aerial screw. Created in 2003, the Leonardo da Vinci Cultural Park is one of the main attractions of the site.
