Polish runner, Domink Tabor with a UTMB Index of 827, smashes the 34km, Trail des Pèlerins race at the Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB race on the Sunday 19th of May covering the distance in a just 2 hours, 20 minutes and 33 seconds, nearly 25 minutes ahead of second placed Dorian Louvet from France.

Tabor from Warsaw, initiated in trail running just 2 years ago graduating from track and field in 5 and 10 thousand metre distance. The professional physiotherapist and osteopath has represented Poland in European and World Championships and is making his mark in the trail running scene.

„I come from Krakow in Poland where we have similar mountains to here to train. I only seriously got into trail running 2 years ago so have not had that long doing it. I used to do track and field, 5,000 m, 10,000 m, steeple chase running, and I always felt something for the mountains, but did not try it.

In 2022 I represented Poland for the first time in the European Championships, then I qualified for the World Championships will race the Europeans again in two weeks. I race relatveily shorter distances than trail runners because I am relatively new to this. The 50ks, 100ks is for the future. For now, I want to race as fast as I can and as often as possible and today was perfect.

Conditions were a little tougher than on the reconnaissance a couple of days ago because there was a lot of mud and streams flowing through. My coach had told me to not take any unnecessary risks because I have the Europeans in two weeks, so be careful. I did ultimately race hard from the start and the goal was to push as hard as I could. I knew I would be running solo from the start, so I executed the plan. I was maybe a little slower at the start but then pushed hard. I am happy with today’s race and puts me in a good place ahead of the Europeans in Annecy at the end of the month.

These shorter races require such intensity and sometimes it can be even harder to race these than the longer distances. I really encourage people who want to get into trail running to start with these shorter distances and then build up. It is healthier and it is more fun. I hope to see a bit more of Aslace, it is truly beautiful and the trails so nice to run and the terrain is perfect.”
