With exports worth over five billion Euros, Germany ranks first. Chocolate lovers can visit four festivals celebrating cocoa in Germany and take part in 14 different tours, workshops, and activities. Switzerland, home of the infamous Toblerone bar, follows in second with the highest per capita consumption of chocolate at 8.8 kg per year. Belgium follows in third with the second-highest exports (€3,124.78), while France comes in fourth with the most museums on offer (eight).
While Estonia has a relatively high consumption rate of chocolate (6.5 kg) per capita, the exports are the lowest in the top 15 at a mere €18.99 million. Spain, on the other hand, has the lowest consumption per person at 3.6 kg per year.
Dr Jan Kuklinski, General Manager at weloveholidays, comments on the research: “Chocolate comes in many varieties and is enjoyed by many, so it’s not surprising that exports and consumption are extremely high in some European countries. Why not visit the source next time and see if you can find new types you particularly enjoy? Our ranking gives an easy overview of which countries have the most to offer for the chocolate fans among us.”
