> Larger and higher quality graphics are attached.

Poland’s typical colour palette is made up of pink, green, orange, and dark brown, thanks to the nation’s favourite dishes of golonka and rosół. Traditionally served with cooked vegetables and a variety of sauces, golonka’s colouring can vary between brown, black or pink depending on the cooking time, whereas the comforting yet light rosół has different shades of oranges, green and white.

Europe’s lunchtime colour palette

Germany’s typical colour palette is based upon the popular currywurst, which contains oranges, browns, and greens. The staple German fast food consists of a sausage seasoned with curry spices, traditionally served with chips and curry sauce.

A mix of green, light brown and orange is Belgium’s typical colour palette, due to the country’s most popular lunches of waterzooi and pommes frites. Perfect for a rainy day, the Belgian chicken stew waterzooi is filled with large chunks of leek, onions, and carrot to give the orange and green hues.

Czech Republic’s typical colour palette is a mix of greens, browns and white, due to the country’s most popular lunches of guláš. It usually consists of beef, pork, or game meat, browned, and simmered alongside onions for hours until the broth thickens. It is traditionally accompanied by tender steamed dumplings or plain bread.

Slovakia’s most mentioned dish is demikát, a traditional Slovakian soup made with a combination of onions, garlic, lard, potatoes, stock, sour cream, and bryndza sheep cheese. This combination of ingredients creates a colour palette of whites and browns. Due to the unusual flavors of bryndza cheese, locals say that you will either love it or hate it.

Colour palettes around the world

One of the United States’ iconic dishes, stuffed pizza from Chicago, lends itself to the golden-brown colour palette of the country. Uramaki, the sushi roll with rice coated on the outside prevalent in Los Angeles, also contributes to the green hue of their typical palette.

In Indonesia, Bakso is the most popular lunchtime meal. Contributing to Indonesia’s heavily green and brown toned palette, this meal is a surefire way to warm your stomach due to the herbs, spices, vegetables, and poultry included.
