Sleep experts at WinstonsBeds.com have suggested turning off electronics and keeping windows closed during the day to avoid hotel rooms from getting too hot.
While almost every hotel has air conditioning there are still some apartments that do not have this luxury facility.
And even the places that do have air conditioning often charge extra to use it – which can be fairly expensive.
The good news is there are a couple of ways to keep a room cool without relying on air conditioning, including using cool towels and being mindful of the heat caused by electronics.
Rebecca Swain, expert at WinstonsBeds.com said: “The majority of hotels and apartments abroad will have air conditioning but sometimes it comes at a bit of a hefty price.
“If you’re trying to avoid the additional charges, there are a few things you can do to keep your room and apartment feeling cool.
“A lot of people will assume that opening the windows is the best way to cool down but if the temperature outside is warmer than inside, this could have the opposite effect.
“Instead of leaving them open all day, only open windows in the morning and evenings when the outside temperature is much cooler.
“Our electronics also let off a lot of heat so remember to unplug anything you’re not using from chargers to TV’s.
“If you find yourself struggling to sleep, a tepid shower before bed can work wonders. It will cool your body down and help promote blood flow.”
How to cool down in a room without air conditioning according to WinstonsBeds:
Take a tepid shower before bed
Taking a tepid shower will help lower your body temperature by promoting blood flow to the skin helping you cool down. Avoid showering in cold water as this can trigger your body to think it needs to warm up making you feel hotter.
Keep windows and curtains closed in the day
You may think opening the windows is the best way to cool the room down but this can actually do more harm than good if the outside temperature is hotter than your room or apartment. Stick to opening the windows in the morning and evening when the temperature is cooler outside.
Use a cool towel on your pulse points
Cooling down our pulse points such as wrists, ankles, inside of elbows and backs of knees, is the quickest way to cool down. Soak a towel in some cool water and place it on your pulse points for some quick relief.
Be mindful of electronics
Our electronics and chargers emit more heat than we think. Try not to leave tv’s and laptops on unnecessarily especially in the evenings before bed. It’s also worth unplugging any appliances you’re not using.
Put ice in front of a fan
Fans can be ineffective when temperatures are really high. If you do have a fan in your room, place a bowl of ice in front of it. The ice will cool down the air in front of the fan, blowing a nice cool breeze rather than hot hair.
