In autumn, the main lakes offer a breathtaking spectacle as the leaves change colour and the landscape is bathed in warm, inviting hues. The mountains and forests that surround the lakes are reflected in the water, creating impressive panoramas in a magical setting that makes this season ideal for hiking, strolling and outdoor activities.
Lake Antholz, known for its turquoise colour, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Alps. It is located at the end of the Val d’Anterselva valley, near the famous Staller saddle on the border with Austria. At an altitude of around 1,640 metres, you can explore the flora and fauna on the nature trail around the lake, and even in autumn, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities.
From St. Vigil and Olang you can reach the high alpine lake (Hochalpensee ) on foot or via the Piz da Peres via ferrata, which is divided into three sections of varying difficulty. The via ferrata, which was opened in 2022, is in a favourable geographical position and offers excellent accessibility, short access routes and breathtaking panoramic views. During the ascent you can admire the Dolomite mountain ranges and enjoy the wonderful panorama. Climbing harness and helmet are required for the via ferrata; if you don’t have the necessary equipment, you can hire it from the many hire stations.
Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, the Grünsee lake in Fanes is a paradise for nature lovers, hikers, photographers or simply for those looking for peace and relaxation. Walking around the lake you can fully enjoy its beauty and the relaxing silence, interrupted only by the ringing of cowbells on the meadows and the splashing of the water. The surrounding mountains, with their vertical walls and shimmering peaks, create a surreal scenery that takes your breath away. No wonder this area has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique beauty, incredible landscapes and great biological diversity.
The Limosee can be reached from Pederü by following path no. 7 to the Fanes Hut, where you can taste typical dishes prepared with simple and local ingredients. The most eco-friendly way to get there is by shuttle bus, which leaves from St. Vigil every 20 minutes and is free with the Holiday Premium Pass. Another option is the Lavarella Hut, with its brand new microbrewery (the highest in Europe), where you can enjoy genuine hand-crafted beer and a variety of culinary specialities.
