The Czech capital had an overall score of 4.40/5, ahead of neighbouring countries’ capitals, Vienna (4.24/5) and Berlin (4.31/5). The average food rating in Prague is the highest in Europe (4.46/5), beating famous gastronomic cities such as Rome (4.22/5) and Paris (4.19/5). Managing the fourth-highest food rating (4.34/5) in Europe, Bucharest not only beats food capitals such as Rome (4.22/5) and Paris (4.19/5), but also neighbouring cities such as Budapest (4.24/5) and Sofia (4.22/5).

Methodology:

  1. Just-eat.fr sought to evaluate the suitability of French metropolitan cities for business lunches, and ultimately crown the highest rated.
  2. To begin, the Natural Earth Populated Places dataset was used to accurately map restaurants to major metropolitan areas, including capital cities and alt-cities. Alt-cities are cities that are “upcoming major cities that offer greater opportunities for entrepreneurs and venture capitalists without the income taxes or capital gains.”
  3. Proceeding this, restaurant eligibility was assessed for a multitude of categories: eating in, delivery and high end. Restaurants considered for eating in provided table service, free WiFi and served alcohol. Those considered for delivery provided delivery services and served alcohol, and those considered for high end provided valet parking and private dining. A city radius of 15km was used for delivery restaurants.
  4. Following the categorisation, a baseline filter selected restaurants with open times from at least 11:00am, along with service, food, and overall ratings greater than or equal to three (out of five). Restaurants with fewer than 50 reviews and those not offering lunch or brunch were removed from the study.
  5. Finally, the data was filtered by country to extract the best French cities for a business lunch, ranking each city by their overall restaurant ratings.
  6. All data was collected in October 2021 and is subject to change.
