„It will be for next year. There were no safety conditions for the participants: the avalanche risk is too high, and our priority remains the protection of the cyclists participating in our event”, commented Mario Zangrando, head of the organization.
And so, this morning, 1,500 participants set off from the center of Bormio for the twelfth edition of the event that unites some of the most iconic climbs in cycling: 46 flags ideally represented the participating nations at LaStelvioSantini in this 2024 edition full of novelties. Indeed, as per the well-established rules, there are no official rankings, but the competitors with the best sum of times on the time trials are rewarded with specific jerseys. So here is who stood on the top step of the podium: Andrew Feather of the Huntbikewheels.com tem and Fabiola Corona were the fastest on the climbs of the long course, which with its 124 kilometres crossed Rogorbello, the dreaded Mortirolo climb and of course the climb to the Cancano lakes.
Simone Donghi of the Asnaghi Cucine team and Yasemin Türe distinguished themselves in the medium course of 102 kilometres (with the last two climbs of the long course), while Stefano Scala of the ASD Swatt Club team and Claudia Bertoncini of the Velo Club Forte dei Marmi ASD conquered the short course of 59 kilometres with only the ascent to the lakes of Cancano.
Tomorrow, the 100 lucky finishers of today’s edition will be drawn: for them, free registration for the 2025 edition.
And for all those who want to take advantage of the discounted price for a bib number in the 13th edition, the early bird promotion will start tomorrow.
The feedback from the organization is also positive, as this year inaugurated the new event format, with very appreciated novelties such as couple registrations, allowing participants to tackle the chosen route together with their sports partner.
The participants’ times are available on the website lastelviosantini.com
