At 2,758 meters above sea level, stretching 21 kilometers from Bormio, with 40 numbered switchbacks marking a countdown to the summit, seven tunnels, and a link between three regions, the Stelvio Pass embodies two centuries of Italian history. This milestone anniversary will be commemorated with various cultural and sporting events, and among them, LaStelvioSantini stands out.
Year after year, LaStelvioSantini celebrates a passion for cycling and the remarkable region that hosts it. The start of this year’s edition on June 8 will be even more special as it coincides with this historic occasion.
„The Stelvio Pass is more than just a road; it’s an icon. A visionary engineering masterpiece built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it continues to challenge cyclists from around the world with its relentless gradients and legendary switchbacks. A stage for epic feats, like Fausto Coppi’s triumph in 1953, the Stelvio is more than a mountain pass: it’s a goal, an ultimate test, and a dream for every passionate cyclist,” says Paola Santini, Marketing Manager at Santini Cycling. „With LaStelvioSantini, we offer riders the opportunity to experience this legend firsthand. It’s not just a race, it’s a unique experience: riding on a road that has shaped cycling history and continues to represent the ultimate challenge between endurance, beauty, and passion for the sport.”
Veronica Mazzola, Marketing Director of Multiservizi Alta Valle Spa, adds: „The 200th anniversary of the Stelvio Pass road is a historic moment for the entire Alta Valtellina region, and especially for Bormio. This road is not just an extraordinary engineering achievement — it is a symbol of connection between territories and cultures, spanning two centuries of Italian history. Since 1825, the Stelvio has transformed into a stage for world-class sporting challenges, attracting thousands of cyclists each year. LaStelvioSantini is one of the most authentic expressions of this bond between territory, history, and sporting passion, making it a must-attend event on the international amateur cycling calendar. On June 8, we will celebrate this significant anniversary by welcoming cyclists from all over the world, ready to write a new chapter in the story of this legendary climb.”
THE EVENT
The iconic amateur cycling event of Alta Valtellina will take place on June 8, 2025, with participants starting from Bormio. As always, the three routes — the long course (130 km), the medium course (108 km), and the short course (64 km) — will push riders to their limits as they ascend to the summit of the Stelvio Pass at 2,758 meters.
Once again, participants will have the option to ride the short course with an e-bike and register as a pair, making the event even more inclusive.
