Coppa delle Alpi 2023 kicks off

The Coppa delle Alpi 2023 began with a prologue in Brescia, now more than ever the City of the 1000 Miglia, in the year of the Capital of Culture.

After the administrative checks and scrutineering at the Mille Miglia Museum, 50 of the 73 crews entered in the race competed in the “Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023” Trophy, a city circuit that took them all the way to the finish line in the center of Brescia. Belotti and Plebani in a 1927 Bugatti T37, also obtained guaranteed admission to the 1000 Miglia 2024.

In the late afternoon, the official start of the race will be in Tirano, a route of more than 1,000 kilometers across the borders of Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Austria with 11 Time Controls, 7 Passage Controls, 90 Time Trials and no less than 60 Secret Average Trials.

At 5 p.m., the first race of the year valid for the Italian Major Events Championship will start.

After passing the Swiss customs at Campocologno, the crews will face the first Average Trials along the hairpin bends that will lead them by night to the Bernina Pass, where at the end of an almost 34-km- long climb they will be able to admire the glaciers of Pizzo Palù, Bellavista and Bernina, not forgetting the famous white lake.

Driving through the Engadin, the cars will reach the outskirts of Saint Moritz and, along the road that runs alongside the Horse Shoe (the section of the Olympia Bobrun, the oldest bobsleigh track in the world and the only one with natural refrigeration), they will compete in the first block of Time Trials that will decide the winner of the “City of Saint Moritz” Trophy. Closing the leg will be the last Time Controls in the pedestrian area of Via Maistra, in the heart of the city, where the cars will cross the finish line of the first day of the race.
