Katy Fairman, Director of Business Development for Boatyard, was recently named as a recipient of the Boating Industry’s 40 Under 40 Award.

Nathan Heber, Boatyard founder and president, comments, “Katy Fairman’s inclusion in Boating Industry’s 40 under 40 list is a testament to her exceptional dedication, innovative mindset, and unwavering commitment to our mission of transforming the marine customer experience. As our Director of Business Development, Katy has played a pivotal role in driving Boatyard’s growth and success. We couldn’t be more proud of her well-deserved recognition.”

For the seventh year in a row, Boating Industry celebrates the hard work of young marine industry professionals across the entire industry with their annual 40 Under 40 Awards. As part of BI’s Top 100 Awards, the 40 Under 40 shines a spotlight on some of the brightest young professionals currently setting the pace for our industry.

Katy has 15 years of experience in demand generation marketing, and she began her marine industry career in brand manager roles for Boat Trader and YachtWorld. Today she leads the business development and marketing efforts for Boatyard, helping customers and strategic partners use technology to deliver modern, personalized customer experiences that are unprecedented in our industry. She also serves as the Networking Committee chair for the Marine Marketers of America, hosting events across the nation that bring hundreds of professional marine marketers together to drive personal connections, encourage knowledge sharing, and raise the profile of marketing as an integral role in leadership.

Katy’s passion is recruitment into the marine industry, specifically raising awareness of the high growth and innovation potential here for marketers and tech professionals. During her interview, Katy explained why young professionals should choose a marine career: “The boating industry is the workforce’s best well-kept secret. It’s a very authentic place, and it’s tough to beat a job where you are surrounded by people who are selling happiness. Every time I meet a young person with a good head on their shoulders, I encourage them to consider roles here when they graduate―especially people in technology or marketing. The opportunities to be inventive and have a real impact here are endless.”

Katy was also asked to comment on the challenges that marketing and technology leaders face in the industry. “The unique details, complex operating systems and long-standing traditions of our industry make developing new technology difficult. At Boatyard, we have found that the best way to overcome that challenge is to listen and learn. By involving service teams in the design and testing of the new tools intended to serve them, we create solutions that are easy to use and solve serious pain points.”
