A New Chapter in the Atacama Desert, and a Morning on the Coast of Rapa Nui

Some places reveal themselves slowly. Chile is one of them, and this month brings three reasons to travel southbound: a room renovation with an authentic sense of place, a family offer at Nayara Alto Atacama, and a sustainable morning on the coast of Rapa Nui.

A New Chapter in the Desert

Renovated Tilo Suites and Catarpe Premium Rooms

Nayara Alto Atacama has completed a full renovation of its Tilo Suites and Catarpe Premium Rooms, shaped throughout by local hands, local materials and a deep sense of place.

Every Tilo Suite now has a private heated plunge pool. Working with Chilean design studio Enrique Concha & Co. alongside San Pedro de Atacama artisans, the interiors draw straight from the landscape: warm woods, clay-textured walls, woven textiles, and a palette of sand, terracotta and earthy grey. Most of the furniture was made for the project.

The Catarpe Premium Rooms follow the same thinking through three elements. Ceramics designed by two local ceramicists, rooted in Lickanantay culture. Textiles hand-loomed from local wool by a cooperative of Andean weavers. And in each room, a small geological display of stones and minerals gathered by local artisans over the years.

These renovations provide a more private, more contemporary way to experience the Atacama Desert.

A Morning on the Coast of Rapa Nui

At Nayara Hangaroa, we believe discovering Rapa Nui also means protecting the legacy of the island.

Our guests recently joined us for a coastal clean-up alongside the Chilean Navy and the Rapa Nui Municipal Tourism Office. Along the shoreline, they came face to face with something most visitors never see: much of the waste washing up here is carried by ocean currents from all over the world. Not a local problem, but a global one.

Everything collected was sorted by hand and sent on for proper treatment on the mainland. One morning on the coast, folded into a much longer process.

Nayara Hangaroa holds the S Seal of Sustainable Tourism, and remains one of the only luxury hotels on Rapa Nui to do so.
